Late-night poll: What will Samsung call its new flagship phone?
There's been no shortage of news and speculation this week surrounding the Galaxy S III -- or whatever Samsung ends up calling it. Mostly folks have been discussing whether this or that rumored spec will turn out to be accurate, but just as intriguing is Samsung's choice of branding for its new flagship smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy S III is the obvious choice, as it indicates a clear successor to last year's Galaxy S II. But it's just as likely Samsung may drop the roman numerals, or follow in Apple's footsteps by eliminating numbers altogether with a "new Galaxy" or "new Galaxy S". We've seen leaked images in the past week showing a "Samsung Galaxy S i9300" splash screen, so that's certainly a possibility.
There's been at least one rumor this week that suggests Samsung may be having second thoughts about calling this thing the Galaxy S III, so anything's possible at this stage. Be sure to let us know what you think in tonight's Android Central late-night poll, and keep following all our coverage in the lead up to the May 3 announcement!

YouTube ordered to filter video uploads by German court, could face hefty fines
A Hamburg court decision has ruled that YouTube is responsible for what its users upload to the site. This therefore could make the site liable for any copyright infringement associated with that. Furthermore, the court has asked the video sharing giant to put filters in place that detect clips that are protected by the German royalties agency Gema at the point of upload. Worst of all, this could saddle the website with a hefty tab. Although this particular case only pertains to 12 videos (and the ruling to seven of those,) future fines could be as much as €250,000 ($330,000) per case. YouTube maintained that it has no responsibility over what users upload, but that it did take action when notified about protected content.
[Thanks, Guy]

Will Amanda Bynes Go to Rehab?
Amanda Bynes has agreed to lay low after her agent and manager ordered her to stop being a fixture of the Hollywood nightlife scene. Is a trip to rehab next?
As has been widely reported, Bynes was arrested for DUI after she hit a police car, then returned the next night to the same club she went to beforehand.
She was then involved in another traffic incident last week. As she keeps on partying (and some say crashing), friends are urging the star to go to rehab.
"Amanda has been in a downward spiral for six months. Even though her dad publicly said she doesn't drink he knows she has a problem," says a friend.
As a source told The New York Post, "She is not the same girl. She just does whatever she wants. Friends are concerned; it's not the Amanda they know.”
"It's truly sad to witness. She is refusing to go [to rehab]."
Says another alleged source close to the situation:
"Amanda was just going out without thinking after her DUI arrest. She was spotted texting and driving and just putting herself in really horrible situations."
"Amanda's agent and manager have ordered her to lay low and avoid clubs. She desperately wanted to go to Coachella last weekend and she has been told not to go the second weekend of the festival, but she is an adult."
"It would just look very bad if she were to go against her advisers and end up going to Coachella. She has promised that she won't go and she hasn't been spotted at any nightclubs in almost a week, which is a beginning for her."
In any case, Amanda did agree to lay low ... as far as we know. Perhaps the comparisons to another troubled Hollywood starlet finally struck a nerve?
"Amanda thinks its extremely unfair that people are calling her the new Lindsay Lohan," says a source. "Comparisons between the two are just ridiculous as Amanda has never been arrested for drug possession or for stealing anything."
"Yes, she got arrested for a DUI, but that doesn't mean she is headed down the same road. Amanda doesn't harbor negative feelings towards Lindsay, she doesn't even know her, she just thinks it's sexist that the two are being compared."
"Men in Hollywood that get arrested for DUI don't face the same scrutiny that women do; that really irks Amanda. She isn't taking the DUI lightly."

Obama enjoys 10-1 financial edge over Romney
WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama's re-election effort enjoyed a 10-to-1 financial edge over Republican rival Mitt Romney last month, out-raising the former Massachusetts governor by millions as Obama stuffed more than $104 million into his campaign war chest.
A nasty primary battle between Romney and his GOP rivals took a financial toll on his presidential campaign, which raised $12.6 million in March and left Romney with about $10 million in the bank by month's end. All told, Obama and the Democratic Party raised a combined $53 million in donations during that period, while Romney with his party pulled in about half of that.
Still, an anticipated fire hose of cash from major Republican "super" political committees and the Republican Party is likely to bring some financial parity to the general election, for which Romney only recently started collecting donations. Super PACs like American Crossroads and its nonprofit arm, Crossroads GPS, raised $100 million this election cycle, and the groups plan to flood the airwaves in coming months with ads critical of Obama.
Also helping Romney is the Restore Our Future super PAC, which reported an $8.6 million last month, largely from a handful of wealthy donors and some continued supporters. The group, for its part, spent more than $11 million on TV spots during the month, coming off a successful track record of battering Romney's GOP primary opponents with attack ads.
For the first time since Super Tuesday, voters got a look at just how much money presidential candidates and their supporters have been raking in. Friday marks nearly three months since Obama's campaign changed course and asked supporters to pony up cash to a favorable super PAC, although its fundraising figures weren't yet available late Friday.
Financial reports due Friday to the Federal Election Commission were expected to show much red ink struggling campaigns are bleeding ? or how much money some groups have been stuffing into their war chests. The Republican National Committee reported a March fundraising haul of $13.7 million, which will boost the eventual GOP nominee during the general election.
Obama's fundraising advantage puts him at a less-than-solid position when compared with the tens of millions of dollars the sister Crossroads groups have amassed so far. During the last six months of 2011 alone, GPS brought in $28 million from only a few dozen major donors, recent tax filings show. Crossroads has said it plans to raise more than $300 million to beat Obama.
Countering Crossroads' millions in ad spending is Priorities USA Action, a super PAC founded by former Obama advisers. From early 2011 through the end of February, however, the group and its nonprofit arm raised about $10 million. Priorities USA Action, like other super PACs supporting GOP candidates, has counted on major financial support from a handful of wealthy donors.
But Obama, for his part, is facing the prospect of being swamped by outside Republican groups in fundraising. That's why he decided to reverse course and give his blessing to super PACs, which can accept unlimited donations from corporations, labor unions and wealthy individuals.
On the Republican side, those outsized donations come from generous donors like Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson and his wife, who have given more than $10 million combined to a super PAC supporting Gingrich. It's unclear, however, if the Winning Our Future PAC will still receive big contributions from Adelson now that Romney is the presumptive nominee.
The largest March contribution to Restore Our Future was $1 million from Huron Carbon LLC, a firm based in West Palm Beach, Fla. The company's owner is not revealed in the super PAC files, but it shares a street and suite address with Oxbow Carbon LLC, a fossil-fuel processor and mining firm headed by energy magnate William Koch. Regulatory filings also show a similarly named Canadian firm, Huron Carbon, with ties to Great Lakes Carbon, a company bought by Oxbow in 2007.
Oxbow had previously given $750,000 to the pro-Romney committee and Koch made an earlier personal contribution of $250,000. Koch is a brother of wealthy GOP donors Charles and David Koch, and while William Koch also supports many GOP causes, he has also at times supported Democrats. Oxbow is a fossil fuels processor and mining operation that has pressed for changes to laws and regulations on mining, safety issues and climate change.
Richard and J.W. "Bill" Marriott, hotel industry magnates whose family is close to the Romneys, also contributed $250,000 apiece to the pro-Romney group. For both men, the donations raised their total gifts to the super PAC to $1 million each. Kenneth C. Griffin, 43, a Chicago hedge fund director, also gave $750,000 to Restore Our Future, following up on $200,000 in earlier donations to the PAC.
The financial reports reflected how much has changed since the March 6 Super Tuesday contests, when Republican voters in six out of 10 states chose Romney as their preferred nominee to compete against Obama. Rick Santorum has since folded his campaign, and Gingrich has been working with a shoestring budget. Their financial reports were not immediately available Friday.
Expenses in Friday's filings also showed some disparity between the two frontrunners' staff sizes, with Obama paying more than 600 and Romney fewer than 100. But that number is expected to grow sizably as Republican donors contribute more to Romney's effort.

Nikon adds D3200 to its DSLR range, we go hands-on! (video)
Nikon's recent cashback promo gave us a twinge that new consumer models might be around the corner, but as of today there's just the one: the almost entry-level D3200, which Nikon hopes will complement the cheaper D3100 without supplanting it. The price gap between these two low-end DSLRs is significant -- around $150 based on current D3100 prices, with the black D3200 and regular 18-55mm kit lens expected to hit shelves at the end of April for $700. What does that extra outlay get you? Quite a lot, actually: a hefty resolution upgrade to 24-megapixels with an Expeed 3 processing engine, versus 14-megapixels mustered by D3100; an extra ISO notch of 6400, providing more flexibility in low-light situations; and also a much higher-res LCD display for cleaner live-viewing and playback, with around four times as many pixels as the D3100's grainy window. Read on for some initial impressions and a hands-on video, and you'll see that there are a couple of subtler selling points too.

Nikon D3200 sample pics appear on Flickr, make a slightly noisy entrance
Ahead of getting trigger happy with a fully-working D3200 -- rather than the pre-production unit from our hands-on -- we've been checking out some official 24-megapixel samples on Flickr. To our eyes, the images befit the smaller pixel size, namely sharp and high-res, but with a good dollop of noise on the side. Albeit completely unscientific, a blowup compared to an image from the similarly priced Sony NEX-5N looks grainier at the same 1600 ISO. On the plus side, the JPEGs show almost zero compression artifacts, so budget-minded shooters could easily print poster-sized images -- of course, providing they have enough light for a low ISO shot in the first place.
